Ian Taylor
Psychotherapist

Sorting through what you want out of therapy and how to get there can feel overwhelming. It's hard to balance focusing on gaining skills and tools versus the mental challenges blocking your personal growth. In therapy, we'll work together to get to know YOU very well and collaborate on creating the change you want to see in your life. Mental illness can rob you of so much autonomy, and it's my passion to help you find new ways of becoming yourself and get back the ability to direct your life.
Therapy with me is relationship-focused and existentialist. In the safety of an empathetic therapeutic relationship, we explore the causes and consequences of your difficulties together. Then, we strategize and use that relationship as a safe space to practice new ways of being. This relationship is enormously powerful, and I make sure to treat it, and you, with the respect required to make it as change-producing and supportive as possible. I consider therapy a process of meaning-making in relationships, and my work is heavily influenced by Irving Yalom.

I have worked with patients on difficulties such as anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship and identity challenges, and major life transitions. I have spent most of the last decade working with low-income clients struggling with severe and persistent mental illnesses in various settings. I am particularly proud of the work that I have done serving under-served communities, and remain committed to providing culturally sensitive, gender affirming, and LGBTQ+ friendly care.

I graduated with a degree in psychology from Ohio University, and hold a CDCA-T from the State of Ohio for the treatment of chemical dependency. I am also currently a student at Adler Graduate School for Clinical Mental Health Counseling, practicing as a therapeutic intern at Element Psychotherapy.

I have experience in a variety of healthcare environments, such as long term care settings, intensive rehabilitative residential services, community-based treatment programs, and private practice. Possessing such a varied background allows me to meet clients where they are, wherever they are.

If you are struggling and want support, I would be thrilled to sit down and meet with you, and see if we'd be a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!
